Liverpool are set to terminate Marcelo Pitaluga’s loan deal, according to a report.
The 19-year-old goalkeeper has impressed in the first half of the campaign while on loan at Macclesfield.
However, the Brazilian suffered an ankle ligament injury in training and will reportedly return to his parent club for treatment.
Pitaluga is set to join up with the Reds for their mid-season training camp in Dubai, as Jurgen Klopp’s squad prepares for the Premier League’s return in late December.
According to Football Insider, Liverpool have internally discussed the possibility of ending Pitaluga’s Macclesfield stay, with the intention of finding him a new loan once he has recovered from his injury.
He is expected to make a full recovery from his ankle injury by the January window.
Liverpool will then pursue an opportunity for Pitaluga to play at a higher level. Macclesfield are currently top of the table in Division One West of the Northern Premier League, though Liverpool will reportedly look for the Brazilian to join a League One or League Two club.
Pitaluga is thought to be highly rated by the Liverpool backroom staff and is considered a goalkeeper with the potential to play at the highest level.
The shot-topper has been capped at Brazil’s Under-17 level, while he has played 25 times for the Reds’ Under-21 side, having graduated from the Under-18s.
Last term, Pitaluga was named on the first-team bench four times. However, the teenager is behind Caoimhin Kelleher and Adrian in the pecking order and is unlikely to displace either in the Reds’ first team in the immediate future.
