Joe Gomez has told Liverpool’s official website that Konstantinos Tsimikas is now one of the best players in training.
Jurgen Klopp is currently putting his squad through their paces during their mid-season training camp in Dubai.
The Reds will play their first friendly in the Dubai Super Cup against Lyon today as they ramp-up their preparations for the return of the Premier League.
Gomez has been speaking about Tsimikas ahead of today’s match and praised him for his attitude in training.
Gomez on Tsimikas
Gomez was asked which players in the squad can be good or bad to be in a training camp with in Dubai.
“To be fair, Robbo is good fun, you can’t even knock it. He knows when to just let it be and when to be a bit of a doughnut,” he responded.
“But I don’t know, I can’t say anyone grinds my gears because it would take a lot to wind me up. So, I think it’s pretty chilled. It’s a good balance.
“Kostas is always ready to go, so if you’re not ready to go then… yeah, I’ll just leave it there! But what a guy. It’s great being away, I think we all miss that.
“That’s the bit about football that we all love as well, it’s the camaraderie and the team spirit. We’ve obviously got a great team here and great people, so it’s a pleasure to be away.”
Tsimikas has proven to be a brilliant back-up option to Andy Robertson since his £11.7 million switch to Anfield.
The Greek full-back has already stepped in for the Scotsman this season and has provided three assists in 10 appearances.
Klopp’s side started to put in some improved performances before the World Cup break and picked up consecutive wins in the Premier League.
The German boss will be hoping to pick up where they left off and produce more consistent performances during the second-half of the campaign.
Liverpool have been boosted by players like Naby Keita returning from injury, while Luis Diaz has suffered a setback in his recovery.
The friendlies against Lyon and AC Milan should give Klopp a good chance to get his players up to match fitness ahead of their Carabao Cup clash with Manchester City next Thursday.
