Liverpool is interested in signing Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini, who is thought to be priced at £34m.

According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, the Reds join Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, and Manchester City in the race to secure the 19-year-old center-back.

The Serie A club would hold out for €40m (£34.4m), but with the potential demonstrated by the youngster in the Italian top-flight this term, this isn’t thought to be much of a barrier.

However, any party interested in landing the Italy international will have to wait until the summer, as Atalanta wants to keep him until the end of the season.

Liverpool join the race for Scalvini

At just 19 years old, Scalvini has already established a regular role in Atalanta’s first team.

Thus far this term, the defender has made 11 appearances in the Serie A – eight of which have come from the starting XI.

Most impressively, he has also become a member of the Italian national team. To date, he has made three appearances for Roberto Mancini’s side, having made his debut in June.

Not only is the youngster an intelligent center-back, but he is also a threat going forward – especially from corners. In 41 appearances for Atalanta Primavera, Scalvini incredibly bagged seven goals.

Hailed by journalist Fabrizio Romano as a ‘top talent’, the player has also drawn comparisons to Inter’s Alessandro Bastoni.

Therefore, if the chance does arrive in the summer, Jurgen Klopp could look to add the great young prospect to his squad.
