Jamie Carragher was hugely impressed by the challenge from Liverpool central defender Nathaniel Phillips on Manchester City striker Erling Haaland in the Carabao Cup on Thursday evening, as quoted on Sky Sports Premier League (8:44pm, December 22, 2022).

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Premier League rivals Manchester City away from home at the Etihad Stadium in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

It was an end-to-end affair between two of the best teams in the world.

Phillips started the match on the substitutes’ bench, but the 25-year-old came on n the 38th minute due to injury to James Milner.

The English defender made a brilliant challenge on City and Norway international striker Haaland in the 43rd minute inside the penalty area.

Haaland was through on goal, and there was a chance that mistiming of the tackle could end in a penalty.

Former Liverpool and England international defender Carragher was on co-commentary duty for the match on Sky Sports Premier League.

And he was hugely impressed by the 25-year-old Phillips, saying that he was worried for the Liverpool centre-back that he had to face Haaland in a tough situation so soon after coming on as a substitute.
