BirminghamLive brings you the latest Aston Villa news as Jurgen Klopp is set to pick from depleted Liverpool squad for Boxing Day clash.

Jurgen Klopp will be without at least eight players for Liverpool’s trip to Aston Villa on Boxing Day.

The Reds will be missing forwards Roberto Firmino, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz, while Arthur Melo, Curtis Jones, James Milner and Kaide Gordon are all expected to miss Monday’s match. Ibrahima Konate is still on a break after representing France at the World Cup.

Liverpool are likely to welcome back World Cup stars Alisson Becker, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk. Alexander-Arnold sat out the midweek Man City match through illness, which has affected a couple of players, while Alisson drops out of the League Cup to allow Caoimhin Kelleher to start. Netherlands captain Van Dijk only returned to training this week.

Elsewhere, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could make his first Premier League start since February when Liverpool aim to kick-start their season at Villa Park next week. The 29-year-old midfielder came off the bench in the defeat to City last time out and could be awarded a rare start against Villa.

Alternatively, youngster Fabio Carvalho could keep his place in the Liverpool team, which would likely see Oxlade-Chamberlain start on the bench.

Fabinho and Thiago should continue in midfield, while Harvey Elliott is pushing Jordan Henderson for a starting berth in the final midfield slot.

Predicted Liverpool XI vs Aston Villa (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, , Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago; Salah, Nunez, Carvalho.
