Enzo Fernandez, a midfielder for Benfica, has agreed personal terms with Chelsea, even though Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and other clubs were also interested, according to 90min.

The report says that Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester United have all talked to Benfica about bringing Fernandez to their teams in January.

Now, Chelsea is really trying to get the midfielder, and the Argentina international wants to move to the club that won the Premier League and UEFA Champions League in the past.

The report says that Fernandez’s contract with Benfica has a release clause for €120 million (£106 million). It also says that the player is aware of the offer from Chelsea and that personal terms have already been agreed in principle.

ENZO FERNANDEZ BLOW FOR LIVERPOOL.

This isn’t good news for Liverpool.

If Fernandez, who won the 2022 Qatar World Cup with Argentina, has a deal in principle with Chelsea, all the Blues have to do to make the deal official is triggered the release clause.

Or, as journalist Simon Phillips told GiveMeSport, pay more than the release clause and make the payments over a longer period of time.

Could Liverpool pull that off?

Should Liverpool pay £106 million for a 21-year-old midfielder from River Plate who joined Benfica in the summer of 2022?
