One of Jürgen Klopp’s favorite players while at Borussia Dortmund could leave the club this summer amid Premier League interest, but Liverpool won’t be involved.
Borussia Dortmund forward Marco Reus’ contract is running into its final six months, and his representatives were spotted at Old Trafford during the Manchester derby.
Reus has spent his whole career at Dortmund, but could opt for a new experience. His agent, Dirk Hebel, spoke to German outlet Bild recently, and commented on Reus’ future, with reported interest from Cristiano Ronaldo’s new club, Al-Nassr (via The Mail).
“It is quite normal that other clubs are interested in a player like Marco, whose contract expires in six months,” Hebel said.
“Marco has always emphasized how much BVB is close to his heart, but also that he wants to continue playing football. So it’s only natural that we have to look at other options.”
Reus was always a favorite of Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp during his time at Dortmund, but the German never pushed to bring the player to Anfield after taking over.
Reus has spoken extremely highly of Klopp in the past, stating in a 2019 interview with Bundesliga.com: “If Jürgen sits in front of you with his aura, which he radiates even when speaking, with his stature, it’s really quite impressive.”
“He brings you under his spell and will not let you go. My heart was racing after we first spoke,” he added.
It’s highly doubtful that Klopp would want to bring Reus to Liverpool in 2023 (he turns 34 soon and has a poor injury record). But it would be interesting to see him in the Premier League after being touted to leave Dortmund for years.
