Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo is taking place in Saudi Arabia.

Ever since Ronaldo drew the curtains on his time at Real Madrid in 2018, head-to-head clashes between arguably the two greatest players in history have been few and far between.

With the exception of Juventus‘ 3-0 win at Barcelona in 2020, the exhibition match between Paris Saint-Germain and a combined XI of Al-Nassr and Al-Hilal players marked their first meeting since they both called La Liga home.

So, while, yes, it might only have been a glorified friendly match, the fact that it could well mark the final direct clash between Messi and Ronaldo made it compulsive viewing for football fans.

And boy did it live up to expectations with Messi wasting no time at all getting the party started, opening the scoring with a deft finish less than three minutes into the game.

Who did Ronaldo nutmeg during all-star game vs Messi?

However, Ronaldo – never one to be outdone – made sure to put on some entertainment of his own in what proved to be his first outing in a game scenario since his Manchester United exit.

And the five-time Ballon d’Or winner certainly turned on the style, busting out a sumptuous nutmeg taken straight out of his 2008 playbook.

With a quick flash of the stunning footwork that became his trademark throughout his first spell at Old Trafford, the ball found its way between the legs of a hapless Carlos Soler.

However, arguably even better than the nutmeg itself was the reaction of those in attendance at the King Fahd International Stadium as the skill was met with a huge gasp.

Ronaldo got the memo: entertain the people.

It’s one thing to produce a cheeky nutmeg to the delight of the fans, but it’s another thing to do so in a style that just feels distinctly Ronaldo-esque in its nature.

How did Ronaldo play in all-star game vs Messi?

However, it wasn’t just all flicks, tricks and no substance from the Portuguese superstar because his first-half performance also saw him stick two goals past the Champions League giants.

After Messi had fired PSG into an early lead, Ronaldo levelled the scores by winning a penalty and duly converting from 12 yards with a stinging finish past Keylor Navas.

Then, just before half-time, Ronaldo bagged his second equaliser of the night in response to a Marquinhos goal when he lashed home a rebound from his own header that Sergio Ramos failed woefully to clear.
