Manchester United will not welcome Mason Greenwood back to first team training at present.

All criminal charges against Greenwood have been dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service, Sky News report.

This has left supporters questioning whether Greenwood will be making a return to the team.

At present the answer appears to be a clear, no, not at this current time.

Will Mason Greenwood play for Manchester United?

Mason Greenwood is still listed as a first team player on the club’s official website.

But this does not mean he will simply return to his old role. Mason Greenwood was suspended by the club after his arrest in January 2022.

BBC Sport reporter Simon Stone reports United are carrying out their own internal investigation. Until this is complete, Greenwood will not train or play.

He reports: “Man Utd to hold internal investigation into how allegations ended up being made. No timescale on process. Mason Greenwood will not play or train until this is complete.”

United’s official statement read: “The club will now conduct its own process before determining next steps.”

It is clear United will not be rushing this decision. Greenwood may not have any charges hanging over him, but his football career remains uncertain.

Part of United’s decision may involve gauging opinion of supporters. Whether Greenwood will be welcomed back, is a debate which appears likely to split fans.

But right now, do not expect to see him training, or playing for the club any time soon. A decision could take weeks, or even months.
