Jürgen Klopp put his Liverpool players through their paces ahead of facing Newcastle United on Saturday. The Reds boss has some decisions to make at last in his squad.

Liverpool trained at the AXA Training Centre ahead of facing Newcastle United in the Premier League on Saturday night, with plenty of smiling faces after a Merseyside derby victory to celebrate earlier in the week.

Jordan Henderson and Fabinho looked much more like themselves in that win while 18-year-old Stefan Bajčetić impressed hugely in the middle of the pitch, with Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo both scoring.

And all of those players were a part of Thursday’s session in Kirkby, where the Liverpool squad took part in a variety of training drills ahead of the trip to St James’ Park.

This is what Liverpool.com spotted as the Reds trained at the AXA Training Centre.

Colombian forward Luis Díaz was not a part of the main session and remains some way short of a full return (a few weeks) but the 26-year-old was running outside on the grass with a fitness coach.

Last week, Díaz said he wanted to be back next month, and while Liverpool will not take any risks with his return, the Reds will be heartened to see him take a step forward in his recovery having been missing for so long.

Trio still present

Virgil van Dijk, Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino returned to the matchday squad on Monday night, with the latter two players getting minutes in the win over Everton — all three were a part of this session, seemingly having come through their returns unscathed.

Youngster Ben Doak was also a part of the training session having had a short-term injury lately. With more attackers back fit now, he might be able to feature for the U21s more often again.

Competition for places

Curtis Jones, Fábio Carvalho and Arthur Melo were all missing from the squad against Everton, not because of any issues, but because the Reds had too many players available to fit on their teamsheet.

It is not often that Jürgen Klopp has had that luxury this season, but the competition to get into the squad and the team can only be a good thing as Liverpool looks to improve and get on a roll of good performances and results.

One star missing… but only from the pictures

The only player not pictured was center-back Joe Gomez, who did not appear in the photographs. But he was shown on a Sky Sports video earlier in the day (you can see that here) which would suggest that the Liverpool photographer just managed to avoid the defender!

Klopp will give an update on the condition of all of his stars — as well as many other things — in his pre-match press conference that takes place on Friday ahead of the vital weekend game.
