Man United will aim to sign three marquee stars in the upcoming summer transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
Manager Erik ten Hag is desperate to maintain the momentum he has built at Old Trafford and believes new top-tier arrivals will help him build on his success going into next season.
However, the Dutchman has been told by the United board that finances at the club are tight due the ongoing takeover talks, and therefore players will need to be sold in order to invest.
Football Insider sources revealed on Friday (3 March) that the Red Devils have put six senior stars up for sale this summer.
Ten Hag has been made aware that Financial Fair Play restrictions have also impacted the club’s small summer budget.
United spent big last summer with Casemiro arriving for £70million, Antony for £85million and Lisandro Martinez for £56million among others.
United’s wages have also chipped into their spending ability after they broke the Premier League record in the 2021/22 season with a staggering £384.2m wage bill.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s £450,000-a-week deal is understood to have had a significant impact on the club’s finances, and Ten Hag has since introduced a new wage structure at Old Trafford since the Portuguese striker’s exit.
United’s lack of spending power was visible in the January transfer window, with the club’s only signings arriving via loan.
Ten Hag plugged holes in his squad by adding Crystal Palace’s Jack Butland, Burnley’s Wout Weghorst and Bayern Munich’s Marcel Sabitzer to his roster, all on a temporary basis until the end of the season.
