Liverpool have been handed a major blow in their pursuit of 21-year-old Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch.
According to the Bild, Liverpool is interested in acquiring the services of Ryan Gravenberch. But Bayern Munich are in no mood to let him leave. The 21-year-old has been the talk of the town for a while now, and a lot of clubs are interested in his services.
Gravenberch talked about his limited game time a few weeks back. And, post that a lot of clubs have been monitoring the 21-year-old midfielder. The former Ajax midfielder had exceptional performances for the Dutch club. And on the back of his impressive display, Bayern Munich bought him for €18.5 million ahead of the 2022-23 season.
Throughout the season, he featured in a total of 33 matches but was on the pitch for less than 1,000 minutes. Gravenberch started in a total of just six matches for the Bundesliga club, the remaining 27 were substitute outings. And, after a disappointing season where he did not get the desired minutes, the 21-year-old expressed his disappointment in an interview with the Telegraaf.
Gravenberch said: “I don’t want to experience a year like that again.”
While he has a contract with the Bundesliga club that runs until the summer of 2027, his statements suggested the former Ajax star was open to the idea of living the club in search of regular game time.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have been interested in the 21-year-old. The Merseyside club struggled in the recently-concluded season because of an inconsistent midfield. And, their priority is to complete an overhaul in the center of the park ahead of next season.
Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of the Dutch Under-21 star and believes the former Ajax midfielder can do wonders for them. The Reds were all set to make moves for the Bayern Munich midfielder.
However, recent statements by Herbert Hainer the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Bayern Munich suggest that there is no point in even trying. The Bundesliga giants consider the 21-year-old an integral part of their setup and Hainer believes he will get an extended run next season.
Hainer said, “In my opinion, he is an incredibly talented player. That’s why we brought him. He got more playing time TOWARD the end of the season. I’m sure he’ll get more playing time in the future.”
With Bayern keen on keeping him in their ranks, Liverpool will have to look for an alternative elsewhere. But amid links with several midfielders, including Gabri Veiga, something or the other should work out for the Reds.
