Liverpool now preparing move to sign ‘phenomenal’ £26m player next week

Liverpool are reportedly preparing their move to sign Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Manu Kone, with the French youngster a long-term target for the Reds.

According to Ouest-France, the Merseyside giants intend to recruit the 22-year-old talent this summer, with a bid now expected to be made next week as Liverpool looks to power on with their recruitment drive having agreed a deal to sign Dominik Szoboszlai.

Lauded as a ‘phenomenal’ player by former Premier League goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer, Kone is highly regarded as one of the best midfield talents in the Bundesliga. And this latest update seems to indicate that Liverpool is now ready to make their opening offer for the Gladbach youngster.

As reported by Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, the German side is demanding just €30m (£26m) for Kone this summer, a transfer fee that Liverpool will find very acceptable given the large sums the Reds have already spent on Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Indeed, Kone will add a lot of value to Liverpool’s squad if the Anfield side does launch a move to sign the Gladbach youngster. Moreover, the transfer could signal the end of Jurgen Klopp’s immense summer push to overhaul the Reds’ midfield options.

Liverpool moving for Kone over other targets is an interesting decision

Kone has been part of the Liverpool news cycle for what feels like an eternity. Yet whilst interest in the midfielder seems legit, few fans would have predicted that the Gladbach man would be the target who the Reds make a concrete move for this summer.

As we know, the likes of Khephren Thuram and Ryan Gravenberch have also been strongly linked with a move to Liverpool in recent weeks. And given their physical stature and international reputations, the Anfield side moving for Kone is an interesting decision based on what is out there in the market.
