Liverpool lose member of backroom staff after Robbie Keane raids former club
Former Liverpool striker Robbie Keane has added a highly-valued member of Jurgen Klopp’s’ backroom staff to his ranks at Israeli Premier League side Maccabi Tel Aviv.
The former Republic of Ireland international, who played for Liverpool during the 2008-2009 season in between spells at Tottenham Hotspur, was appointed as the head coach of the Israeli side in June. The role came just weeks after he left his post as assistant manager at Leeds United following their relegation to the Championship.
The 42-year-old will now be joined in Tel Aviv by Liverpool analyst Dominic Price, who spent over 10 years at Anfield after first joining the club as part of their International Football Academies project in 2011 and later enjoyed success in roles at the club’s Kirkby-based Academy. Price will now work as technical director at Maccabi Tel Aviv.
Price, however, did depart the Reds in the summer of 2020, albeit briefly, to join Blackpool as a first-team analyst. His stay at Bloomfield Road, though, lasted less than two years before he returned to Merseyside to work closely with Klopp’s assistant Peter Krawietz and his team of data analysts.
Thiago: Should he stay or go? Let us know!
Good evening all! My name is Keifer MacDonald and I’ll be supplying you all with the latest Liverpool news this evening.
It’s already been quite the start as former Reds captain Steven Gerrard has been announced as the new manager of Saudi Arabian side Al Ettiifaq. However, it’s another Liverpool midfielder that has been causing a storm on social media this afternoon as reports have suggested Thiago Alcantara could depart the club this summer with just 12 months remaining on his current deal – leaving sections of the fanbase split.
Personally, I can’t see a way in which Jurgen Klopp’s side benefit from sanctioning the departure of a two-time Champions League winner, but let me know your thoughts by tweeting me at @KeiferMacd or the ECHO @LivEchoLFC.
