Steven Gerrard is looking to significantly strengthen Al Ettifaq’s squad ahead of the new season, and the former Liverpool man has his sights set on former club legends.
Jordan Henderson has been reported as a target for the Saudi Arabian side this week, and according to The Athletic, the Liverpool captain is leaning towards accepting an offer from the Saudi Pro League side. The Englishman’s decision is expected soon, and once that is made, Gerrard will pursue another Liverpool legend.
Bayern Munich’s Sadio Mane is now a target for Al Ettifaq, according to 90min, as the German champions look to offload the Senegal international this summer.
Because there isn’t much interest in the 31-year-old across Europe, Gerrard can be confident in landing the Liverpool legend.
Mane left Liverpool last summer after a phenomenal six-year stint with the club. The forward was expected to have the same impact at Bayern, but things did not go as planned. The 31-year-old sustained a fibula injury during the season, and a fight with teammate Leroy Sane made his chances of remaining at the German champions very slim.
Al Ettifaq have yet to make an official approach for Mane, but Gerrard clearly wants the Bayern Munich star in Saudi Arabia ahead of the new season.
