Contact made: Liverpool have spoken to agents of 21y/o who could replace Fabinho

Liverpool are said to have made contact with the agents of a Brazilian midfielder who could be a replacement for Fabinho at Anfield.

Over the last 48 hours, the Reds’ number three has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League, with Jordan Henderson also named as a potential high-profile recruit for the increasingly star-studded division.

If either or both of those players leave, Jurgen Klopp and Jorg Schmadtke will no doubt be determined to bring in at least one more midfield signing, and if the 29-year-old leaves, he could be replaced by a younger compatriot.

According to 90min, Liverpool are among several clubs that have spoken with the agents of Fluminense’s Andre Trindade, who is seeking £25 million for him, though Fulham appear to be in pole position to bring the 21-year-old to England.

If the Reds sell Fabinho this summer, the recent Brazil debutant could be a very worthwhile cost-effective option to consider.

Andre has averaged 2.4 tackles per game in the current Brazilian top flight season, matching Liverpool’s best performer in that category in 2022/23, Thiago (WhoScored).

He’s also skilled with the ball, as illustrated by FBref’s figures. He is in the top 1% of positional peers for pass completion (93.1%) and the top 3% for successful take-ons (1.94 per game) in the ‘Men’s Next 8 Competitions,’ according to the website.

He usually plays as a number 6, but he can also play in midfield and on the right wing if necessary (Transfermarkt). That specialisation as a holding midfielder, as well as his versatility to play elsewhere, will undoubtedly appeal to Klopp, especially if Fabinho departs.

Fulham appear to be ahead of the other suitors for Andre at the moment, but for only £25 million, he could be well worth considering for Liverpool, even if they manage to keep the 29-year-old former Monaco tank.
