Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has heaped praise on new signing Dominik Szoboszlai following his display against Karlsruhe.

Dominik Szoboszlai has caught the eye of Jurgen Klopp after his first game in a Liverpool shirt.

The Reds were in pre-season action on Wednesday evening as they took on Karlsruhe from Germany’s second tier.

This turned out to be an entertaining clash as Darwin Nunez put Liverpool in front early on.

Klopp’s men then found themselves 2-1 down as Lars Stindl and Sebastian Jung scored either side of the break.

Liverpool found another gear though as Cody Gakpo levelled it up before an injury-time brace from Diogo Jota handed the Reds a 4-2 win.

There was no Fabinho or Jordan Henderson as they close in on moves to Saudi Arabia, so this wasn’t a fully-formed Liverpool side.

There were encouraging signs though, including from new signing Dominik Szoboszlai.

Jurgen Klopp praises Dominik Szoboszlai

Hungarian playmaker Szoboszlai started in the Liverpool midfield against Karlsruhe before being replaced by fellow new boy Alexis Mac Allister at half time.

Szoboszlai looked lively in terms of his pressing and earned praise from Klopp for exactly that reason.

Speaking to Liverpool’s official website after the final whistle against Karlsruhe, Klopp praised how his young players and Szoboszlai were ‘the best’ in counter-pressing moments.

Klopp adds that he liked Szoboszlai’s performance ‘a lot’, especially when playing a wide attacking midfield role.

Klopp suggested that Szoboszlai ‘looked really good’ for Liverpool and fans will be hoping to see much more moving forward.

“Well look, first half it was clear, the new boys – the kids and Dom – were the best in counter-press,” said Klopp.

“So they obviously say, ‘Oh my God, the boss said this and that’ and they go. They all have to do that. It’s not that because it’s my idea, it’s just because we have to do it in common. I liked Dom a lot, especially when he was half-left, looked really good,” he added.

The 22-year-old completed a move to Anfield earlier in July as Liverpool paid a huge £60million.

Szoboszlai may now see a number of other midfielders arrive alongside him and he will just be happy to make made a positive impression on Klopp in his first Liverpool appearance.
