Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has praised young defender Jarell Quansah, believing he is a ‘proper center-back’.
Liverpool were in pre-season action on Sunday as they faced Championship side Leicester City in Singapore.
The Reds coasted to a 4-0 victory with Darwin Nunez, Bobby Clark, Diogo Jota, and Ben Doak all on the scoresheet.
That’s four goals in each of Liverpool’s three pre-season games this summer with the Reds racking up the goals.
Some of Liverpool’s defending hasn’t been stellar, especially in the 4-4 draw against Greuther Furth last week.
A clean sheet against Leicester was nice though and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has moved to hail one defender.
Jurgen Klopp praises Liverpool talent Jarell Quansah
Klopp handed a chance to defender Jarell Quansah, bringing him on at halftime with Liverpool already 3-0 up.
Quansah partnered Joel Matip at center-back with Joe Gomez and Kostas Tsimikas making up the rest of the back four.
Quansah had one incredible moment, throwing himself at the ball to block Patson Daka in front of the goal.
The 20-year-old picked up an injury so didn’t see out the game, but certainly make an impact.
Quansah hails from Warrington and has been in the Liverpool ranks since the age of just five.
The 6ft 3 defender impressed on loan at Bristol Rovers in the second half of last season and is now impressing Klopp.
The Liverpool boss spoke to the club’s official website after beating Leicester and offered praise to Quansah.
“Quansah grew in the last years, not only physically but as a man as well – a proper center-half,” said Klopp.
It’s unclear whether Quansah will be kept around the Liverpool first team this season or loaned out again, but Klopp seemingly likes what he sees in the youngster.
