Southampton manager goes back on his word in Romeo Lavia transfer boost for Liverpool

Liverpool is gearing up for a pivotal week with Romeo Lavia’s prospective transfer from Southampton taking center stage. As the team readies itself for the Premier League opener against Chelsea, behind the scenes, the club’s recruitment unit is in full swing.

Having secured Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, Liverpool’s transfer activity has momentarily paused, focusing on incoming additions. Jurgen Klopp, eyeing a defensive midfielder, faced the necessity of deploying Curtis Jones in the role during the pre-season.

Romeo Lavia of Southampton leads the roster of potential recruits, although the club has encountered hurdles negotiating the Championship side’s asking price. However, according to renowned reporter Fabrizio Romano, despite previous setbacks, a move for Romeo Lavia to Liverpool remains plausible.

During an appearance on Born n Red, Romano emphasized that Liverpool has reinitiated contact with Southampton regarding Romeo Lavia. The trusted journalist asserted that the transfer is “very possible” after the Reds’ initial bids were turned down by the Championship outfit.

“Jurgen Klopp has spoken about working on solutions for midfield, but my understanding remains that the priority is still absolutely Romeo Lavia.”

“It’s not a straightforward deal. Southampton insist on £50m package for Lavia, so negotiation remain ongoing, but it will continue next week.”

Interestingly, Southampton omitted their coveted player from the lineup during a 2-1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday in their opening match on Friday.

As this week unfolds, questions loom: Will this transfer finally reach fruition? Will Liverpool meet the financial terms required? The coming days will provide insights into the club’s aspirations and plans.
