Liverpool transfer news, rumours, gossip and speculation including the latest on Moises Caicedo, Fede Valverde, Romeo Lavia and Benjamin Pavard
Hello and welcome to our dedicated Liverpool live blog for Friday, August 10 including updates from yesterday too.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will address the media this morning ahead of the Reds’ season opener against Chelsea on Sunday. And there will be plenty to discuss – including suggestions a stunning £110m deal has been agreed with Brighton for midfielder Moises Caicedo.
The transfer rumour mill is still churning away in its final month. September sees the window slam shut and Liverpool look set to be very busy before then.
Romeo Lavia had been the name on the lips of everyone this week, with Chelsea entering the picture and tabling a £48m bid. But it appears Liverpool have done the same in reverse to the Stamford Bridge outfit by quickly moving for Caicedo and potentially getting their man.
Paul Joyce update on Caicedo situation
A new Times article from Tom Roddy and Paul Joyce, published at 3.30pm, has given their take on where things stand with Caicedo.
It indicates that Chelsea still have work to do – but are set to increase their bid in order to land the midfielder.
Chelsea are prepared to raise their bid for Moisés Caicedo as they believe the Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder favours a move to London over Liverpool.
The Merseyside club agreed a British-record £111 million transfer fee with Brighton to sign Caicedo after hijacking Chelsea’s deal but are yet to secure personal terms with the player.
Brighton want negotiations to reach a conclusion prior to the Premier League season starting this weekend but are open to improved offers being submitted.
Chelsea are desperate to secure the signing of the 21-year-old after protracted negotiations this summer, but face breaking the British transfer record for the second time in six months, having signed Enzo Fernández for £105 million in January.
The piece also adds: “Liverpool had thrashed out the deal for the Ecuador international Caicedo on Thursday night and must wait to see if Chelsea do now match the bid for Caicedo, who had intimated that he wants to move to Stamford Bridge.”
It suggests Brighton are prepared to sell to the highest bidder, but that Liverpool’s move – sanctioned by FSG – “brings pressure on the west London club”.

Matters moving quickly today. This from about 80 minutes ago already in danger of being overtaken – not least with Chelsea move for Tyler Adams having collapsed. That could be instructive over what happens next with #LFC 🔴https://t.co/KoD8sMvMtf
