Chelsea are working on the Moises Caicedo deal on Saturday evening, with a final fee being discussed with Brighton.

The Blues have been putting the brakes on Liverpool’s prospective move for Caicedo ever since yesterday. But with the Reds the only club to meet Brighton’s asking price so far, nothing much has changed today.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano though, that could soon change. Taking to Twitter this evening, Romano claimed that Chelsea are working on the deal for the Ecuadorian ‘right now.’

Liverpool

“Chelsea, working on Moises Caicedo deal right now — understand final fee being discussed with Brighton is in excess of £110m,” writes the journalist at 4.57pm.

“Key hours ahead. Chelsea want Moises at Stamford Bridge tomorrow — plan in their mind since last week.”

Chelsea working to trump Liverpool

Until we hear news that Brighton have accepted an offer from Chelsea, we’ll remain sceptical about this.

The Blues have now had something like 38 hours to match Liverpool’s bid. As of yet, there’s been a lot of talk, but not much action. That could be a good sign for the Reds.

With Liverpool still hanging in there, they are clearly a little unsure about Chelsea’s ability to bid, too.

Nevertheless, it isn’t great news for Liverpool either. Ever since it was reported that a medical was being arranged yesterday, there’s been little to no movement on the Reds’ side.

Of course, that may not be true. We’re sure that plenty is being done behind closed doors to convince Caicedo that his future lies at Anfield.

But at least publicly, they haven’t seemed to convince him of that just yet.

There’s seemingly still a little way to run in this saga yet, even if there is a breakthrough this evening. Either way, at this stage, it would be a surprise to see Caicedo at Stamford Bridge tomorrow.
