“We can make it happen”- Serie A chief confident of signing 27-year-old Liverpool target

Inter Milan increasingly confident of signing Liverpool target Benjamin Pavard

Bayern’s Benjamin Pavard saw himself linked with a move to Liverpool a few weeks ago following the tweaks in the Re ds’ system demanding a centre-back also capable of slotting in at right-back.

However, the latest update on the Pavard front could be disheartening for fans who wished to see the 27-year-old Frenchman don the Reds’ jersey. Even with Manchester United’s interest in the player, far away in Italy, Serie A giants Inter Milan are growing confident of securing the services of the 2018 World Cup winner. Here is what the CEO of Inter, Giuseppe Marotta, had to say via Fabrizio Romano’s Twitter:

“We won’t announce Benjamin Pavard as new signing today but… we’re in good position. We’re doing our best to sign Pavard, we are ambitious. It’s not an illusion, we feel we can make it happen”.

Bayern also need a replacement before they sign off on this deal as per Romano via a different tweet. Having said that, given Inter are so close to securing a deal, it is highly unlikely that Liverpool or even Manchester United could have a sniff at the situation from this moment.

As for Liverpool, they will need to look elsewhere in their pursuit of looking for a Trent Alexander-Arnold replacement. While we have the likes of Conor Bradley among others, the new system will also call for a player who could seamlessly slot into central defensive positions as well and that is why Pavard seemed like the perfect fit for Liverpool.

What next for the Reds?

Having said that, we could also look to sign a left-sided centre-back to provide backup on the other side. Three central defenders, two wingbacks, and three midfielders is also a great set-up for the Reds enabling Trent to explore his creative best.

However, we can only speculate. The people in their jobs at the club know what they are doing, and we best leave it to them to figure out. The game against Bournemouth, apart from the goal we conceded was a wonderful game to watch, and hopefully, the Reds maintain this level of form and go on about the rest of their season.

Ideally, we need to get on board a centre-back and a defensive midfielder before the conclusion of the transfer window. However, if the higher-ups including manager Jurgen Klopp believe that Wataru Endo can do the trick, albeit until the next transfer window, so be it.
