Linda Pizzuti was delighted with Liverpool’s victory over Newcastle after the sending off of Virgil van Dijk and two goals from Darwin Nunez.
Linda Pizzuti hailed ‘incredible’ Liverpool after their 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Newcastle at St James’ Park yesterday.
But John Henry’s wife admitted she still can’t understand why Virgil van Dijk was sent off in the early stages of the game. The Dutchman was shown a controversial red card after appearing to catch Alexander Isak and deny the Newcastle striker a goalscoring opportunity – although the decision by referee John Brooks has led to fierce debate.
Nevertheless, Liverpool claimed a thrilling comeback win when Darwin Nunez emerged from the bench to score twice and overhaul Anthony Gordon’s first-half goal to claim all three points for the Reds.
It means Eddie Howe is winless against Jurgen Klopp in 11 games and puts Liverpool on seven points after three games so far this season.
Taking to Instagram to hail the performance, Pizzuti, said: “Incredible. Only 10 players are already behind, and Liverpool takes 3 points on the road with relentless play yielding a beautiful brace from Darwin.
“After almost 13 years, perhaps I just don’t understand what makes a red card?”
Liverpool fans would flood the comments section, begging Henry and Fenway Sports Group to spend money on transfers in the final five days of the summer window. Deadline day is on Friday and Liverpool appears in need of a defender and another midfield player.
Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Wataru Endo have been signed so far this summer for fees totaling around £111m, but the offloading of several players, including Fabinho for £40m and Jordan Henderson for £12m has left fans wanting more reinforcements before the Reds take on Aston Villa next Sunday.
