Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United have been linked with Atalanta central defender Giorgio Scalvini.

According to 90min, Liverpool and Manchester United are interested in signing Giorgio Scalvini from Atalanta.

The report has claimed that both Liverpool and United watched Scalvini in action for Italy against Ukraine in a Euro 2024 qualifier during the international break.

Giorgio Scalvini would be a good signing for Liverpool

In our view, Atalanta and Italy international central defender Giorgio Scalvini would be a very good signing for Liverpool.

We do not think that Atalanta will be willing to sell the 19-year-old central defender in the January transfer window.

After all, the Italian club are likely to be in the race for the Serie A top four in the middle of the season.

However, a transfer could happen in the summer of 2024, if Liverpool are willing to spend big.

And the former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners do need to start thinking about signing a young and promising centre-back for the long term.

Virgil van Dijk is still a very good defender, but he is 32 now and has not been at his best for a while now.

Joel Matip is 32 and has had injury problems.

Joe Gomez has not always been impressive.

Scalvini is one of the best young centre-backs in Europe who has been playing regular first-team football for a while now.

The 19-year-old has made three appearances in Serie A so far this season.

The centre-back made 29 starts and three substitute appearances in Serie A last season.

Scalvini scored two goals and gave two assists in those games.

Football Talent Scout has described Scalvini as a “complete, elegant and dominant centre-back” who can play as a right centre-back or left centre-back and has the “perfect mix of a pure defender and ball-playing defender”.
