Jurgen Klopp spoke of his frustration after his Liverpool side came from a goal down to beat Wolves 3-1 at Molineux.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp admitted his side couldn’t have fared much worse after their below-par first-half display against Wolves. The Reds ran out 3-1 winners after mounting a second-half comeback thanks to Mohamed Salah’s brilliance, but Klopp was left deeply unimpressed with how his side played in the opening 45 minutes.
The German boss was an animated figure on the touchline after the Reds bounced back from a dismal first-half showing to secure all three points and continue their unbeaten start. Hwang Hee-chan had put the hosts ahead after a mazy run from Pedro Neto, capitalising on some poor Liverpool defending.
But Klopp changed things at half-time, hooking the cautioned Alexis Mac Allister at the break, and they responded through Cody Gakpo’s close-range finish. Andy Robertson, making his 200th appearance for the club, tapped home to put the Reds in front with a few minutes left before Hugo Bueno’s own goal sealed an away win.
Klopp was far from happy with their first 45 minutes, declaring it ‘really bad’, before seeing a drastic improvement when he brought Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz off the bench. But with two assists, he had his main man Salah to thank.
“The good thing about the first half is that it was so bad we couldn’t play that bad in the second half,” Klopp said to TNT Sports.
“We had low energy level with Macca [Mac Allister], some others as well. We changed the system and one player and it was a bit more speed up front, natural speed. We controlled the game better. We changed everything at half-time.
“The first half was really bad, the second half was really good. A massive three points. The truth as well is Wolves caused us so many problems. We were not able to close the gaps.”
