TalkSPORT pundit Martin Keown has said that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp played Alexis Mac Allister in the wrong position in the first half of the Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday afternoon.

Liverpool are taking on Wolverhampton Wanderers away from home at Molineux Stadium in the Premier League at the moment.

Wolves are 1-0 in the lead.

Alexis Mac Allister started the match for Liverpool.

The Argentina international midfielder started in the centre of a three-man midfield.

Keown is on co-commentary duty on the match for talkSPORT.

And the Arsenal legend has not been particularly impressed with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp playing Mac Allister in defensive midfield.

The pundit believes that the 24-year-old should be playing a bit further forward in midfield.

Keown said in the 24minute (12:54pm, September 16, 2023): “Whether it’s the best role, not quite so sure. I think he would probably be better higher up in that midfield and somebody else sits deep.”

Alexis Mac Allister trying to replace Fabinho at Liverpool

In the first half against Wolves, Mac Allister had a pass accuracy of 86.4%, won one header, took 53 touches, and made three tackles.

Mac Allister is trying to play the role of Fabinho in the Liverpool midfield.

Now, Fabinho is a ‘proper’ defensive midfielder.

Mac Allister is able to play further forward and is perhaps not at the level of Fabinho when it comes to shielding the backline.

The Argentina international is more dynamic, but he is not as good at winning the ball back as Fabinho was for Liverpool.
