‘Needs an explanation’ – Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher baffled by lack of lines for Luis Diaz offside

Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher were left confused as to why Luis Diaz’s goal was ruled out against Tottenham.

Just after the half hour mark, the Colombian thought he had fired Liverpool in front in north London with a low finish.

However after a quick check, the goal was disallowed for offside and Spurs scored themselves moments later through Heung-min Son.

Liverpool, who were down to ten men after Curtis Jones’ red card, equalised in first-half stoppage time thanks to Cody Gakpo.

Diaz’s disallowed goal was the subject of debate at half-time as VAR did not appear to draw any lines on the replay.

Speaking for Sky Sports, a confused Redknapp said: “He looks well onside, I can’t believe they didn’t give it.”

“That one I’m mystified,” added Neville. “The speed of the decision, we didn’t see the lines, there needs to be an explanation on that one.”

Host Kelly Cates clarified that they also hadn’t been shown the lines in the studio.

Jamie Carragher also took to X to say: “When it takes this long for an answer from PGMOL over a contentious decision you know there’s been a f*** up!”
