'Just watch them' - Manchester United fans make Liverpool prediction as Sheikh Jassim talks end

Manchester United and Liverpool have both been seeking external investment within the last year.

Qatari businessman Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani has withdrawn from the process to buy Manchester United, it has this evening emerged.

Sheikh Jassim had launched a £5bn for the club back in May, with the Glazer family listening to offers for a full sale, though talks are understood to have broken down between both parties.

It was made public in November of last year the Glazers were considering ending their long-standing association with the Red Devils, though are holding firm over their valuation of the club they acquired for £790million in 2005.

News of United’s owners seeking an exit strategy arose at the same time Fenway Sports Group released a statement they would be considering “new shareholders if it was in the best interests” of the Reds.

There was talk at the time of FSG potentially walking away from Liverpool, with some suggesting Qataris could launch a formal bid for the Reds. This never came to fruition, with FSG instead recently striking a deal with Dynasty Equity to end their search for investment.

It remains to be seen where Sheikh Jassim now turns his attention after seemingly walking away from a deal with the Red Devils. Speculating on social media, a selection of United supporters have shared a prediction Liverpool could soon be next on his hitlist after failing to reach an agreement with the Glazers.

Such a move would of course leave the Reds’ fanbase divided, with some eager for a full-scale takeover to match the financial power of Manchester City while others have expressed concerns over the moral issues such a deal would represent.
