What Jordan Henderson and Sadio Mane did after playing against each other last night

Former Liverpool players Jordan Henderson and Sadio Mane faced each other in the King’s Cup in Saudi Arabia last night.

Henderson’s Al Ettifaq took on Mane’s Al Nassr for a place in the quarter-finals of the Saudi domestic trophy.

With another former Red, Gini Wijnaldum, also in the starting XI and Steven Gerrard managing Al Ettifaq, the game had a decidedly Liverpool flavour to it.

Ultimately though, it was Mane and Al Nassr who took the glory, Sadio scoring an extra-time winner to send his team through. And after the game, Twitter account Al Nassr Zone spotted a nice moment between the match-winner and Henderson.

Standing in what looks like the changing rooms after the game, Henderson and Mane stand between a third man, who’s wearing Liverpool’s away shirt from last season.

The Reds fan and Henderson hold up the Senegal forward’s No.10 shirt, with Mane providing a big smile and a thumbs up. Al Nassr Zone claim that the former Reds attacker handed his old captain the shirt after the game.

Mane wins Henderson clash

With so many former Liverpool players now employed over in Saudi Arabia, we’ve already seen a bit of this so far this season.

Henderson and Mane have actually already met, taking each other on in the opening game of the season back in August.

There was also a nice moment between the pair before that, when they bumped into each other at a promotional event.

All of the niceties are a reminder of just how close the Liverpool side of old truly was.

With all the excitement going on amongst the fan base over Jurgen Klopp’s ‘Liverpool 2.0,’ former heroes can start to fade a little.

But it shouldn’t be forgotten that the likes of Henderson, Mane and Wijnaldum were the foundations on which the side that won it all were built.

Having spent so many years playing together, it’s still odd to see them come up against each other.

At least even in rivalry, it’s clear that the bond forged on Merseyside still remains.
