‘What?’: Micah Richards disagrees with what Alan Shearer has said about £67m Liverpool player

Liverpool know better than any other club that there’s nothing better than a last-minute goal.

The Reds have scored some incredible late strikes over the years from Stan Collymore’s effort against Newcastle to Steven Gerrard’s wondergoal in the 2006 FA Cup final.

However, the best of the bunch may well be Alisson Becker’s dramatic late header against West Brom back in 2021.

The Brazilian’s late goal played a huge part in securing a top four finish for Liverpool that season, and it’s surely one of the great moments in Premier League history.

However, speaking on the BBC Match of the Day Top 10 Podcast, Alan Shearer ranked Alisson’s goal as just the 10th best last-minute winner in Premier League history, much to the bemusement of Micah Richards.

Alisson’s goal doesn’t rank highly

Shearer gave his verdict on the £67m man’s goal.

“At number 10 I have Alisson’s goal against West Brom?” Shearer said.

“What?” Richards responded.

“Oooh, really?” Lineker stated.

“I’m glad he’s not won because that would’ve depressed me because that goal meant that Leicester wouldn’t qualify for the Champions League and finished in fifth place. It was like devastating, it’s a shame because whenever a goalkeeper scores it’s a brilliant moment, unless it’s against your team,” Lineker added.

One of the best ever

Ok, Alisson’s late goal may not have been as good as Sergio Aguero’s against QPR back in 2012, but it’s up there with one of the best late goals ever.

Not only did it play a huge part in Liverpool’s Champions League qualification that season, but it was scored by a goalkeeper – how often do you see that?

This was one of the most dramatic moments in Premier League history, and we can’t understand how you can’t have this goal in your top five greatest last minute winners in Premier League history.
