Luis Diaz is reportedly set to face punishment from the Football Association for breaking the golden rule- He could be exempted.

Luis Diaz is reportedly set to escape any punishment from the Football Association after he lifted up his shirt to call for the release of his kidnapped father against Luton Town.

Diaz scored a dramatic late equalizer off the bench to rescue a point for Liverpool at Kenilworth Road after Tahith Chong’s goal looked to have secured an unlikely win for the Hatters.

The Colombian international missed the previous two games after his parents were abducted at gunpoint in his homeland on October 28th.

But he returned for Sunday’s fixture and revealed a message on a shirt under his match kit that said ‘Libertad Para Papa’ (‘Freedom for Papa’) after scoring his late goal.

According to FA rules, players are not allowed to remove their shirts to display personal messages, but the 26-year-old will likely avoid charges due to the nature of the situation, according to a report in the Daily Mail.

Diaz’s mother has been rescued by police, but his father still remains missing following the kidnapping by the anti-government group the National Liberation Army (ELN).

After the game, the forward posted an emotional statement on social media, calling once again for the release of his father.

‘I thank Colombians and the international community for the support received, Thank you for so many demonstrations of affection and solidarity in this difficult time that many families in my country find themselves living.’

After the game against Luton, Liverpool’s goalkeeper Alisson praised Diaz for his character after his telling contribution on his return to the side.

‘It says a lot about his [Diaz’s] character and inner strength. I can’t imagine what he’s going through,’ the Brazilian said.

‘We’re supporting him and feeling his pain, but for him, it’s on a different level. Football can bring joy to someone who is struggling. Football is bringing joy to Luis at this moment.

‘He scored a fantastic goal for us, which was really important. When you’re on the pitch, you focus on the job. He did it for us.’
