Jurgen Klopp admits he didn’t realise how good Liverpool youngster actually was

Jurgen Klopp has admitted that he didn’t know how good Jarell Quansah actually was until the Liverpool youngster broke into the senior squad.

Speaking to the press ahead of Liverpool’s UEFA Europa League clash against Toulouse, the Anfield boss revealed that the 20-year-old’s impact in the first team has caught him by surprise.

Quansah has been Liverpool’s breakout talent so far this season, as the defender has featured heavily for the Reds in both the Premier League and in Europe, as well as in the League Cup.

Indeed, few fans would have predicted the England youth international to impress as much as he has this season, and Klopp seemingly belongs in the same camp.

Klopp said when asked about Quansah: “If you asked me in pre-season if he would be this good, I would be surprised, but now I see him every day, and I’m not surprised.

“It’s really promising; he’s good on the ball, aggressive in the challenges, he has everything you need, and he’s really happy he’s here.”

Klopp shouldn’t be too surprised by Quansah’s Liverpool breakthrough

Liverpool are no strangers to surprise players breaking into the first team, yet Quansah’s has seemingly caught Klopp and fans off guard, even when it shouldn’t.

The defender was one of Liverpool’s best-performing youngsters at youth level in the past few years, with Quansah also impressing out on loan last season with Bristol Rovers.

And this term has seen the center-back take his biggest career leap yet with utter ease, with Liverpool now having an exceptional defensive talent on their hands in Quansah.
