£43m Liverpool player admits he hasn’t been anywhere near his best this season

Cody Gakpo has admitted that he hasn’t felt anywhere near his best this season despite some impressive performances for Liverpool.

The Dutch international has seen this campaign interrupted by injury as well as the general changes the club made during the summer, particularly in the midfield.

And this position is where Gakpo has now found himself on some occasions this campaign, with Jurgen Klopp yet to find his favourite formula for the new-look midfield.

Yet speaking to the press via journalist Ian Doyle, Gakpo has admitted that he doesn’t think he’s yet to hit his best form this season, even with the winger putting in many good displays this campaign.

Gakpo said when asked about his form this season for Liverpool: “Obviously I’ve been in a few different positions, striker, midfield and left wing.

“I think I can do better. You want to improve every day and become a better player all the time. Working hard to become a better player.”

With four goals and one assist in all competitions this season, it’s easy to see why Gakpo isn’t totally convinced by his form this campaign for Liverpool.

However, when you factor in the changes Klopp has made in recent months and the constant chopping and changing the Liverpool XI is experiencing on a weekly basis, Gakpo’s form can be excused.

Yet with the forward setting himself a goal to improve in the coming weeks, we could soon see a Gakpo who is intent on playing his best football for Liverpool since his £43m move to Anfield this January.

Indeed, the Dutch international is clearly a brilliant forward, and when in the right mindset, Gakpo can be an unbelievable weapon for Liverpool.
