JAMIE CARRAGHER DEFENDS LIVERPOOL CRITICISM AFTER ASTON VILLA’S ACTIONS AGAINST ARSENAL

The high line. If you are a neutral, it’s a joy to watch!

As of this moment, Unai Emery’s Aston Villa and Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur do it to the extreme.

But one team that has mastered it, with trophies, has been Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

It’s a tactic which Jamie Carragher has previously criticised, especially during the lockdown period and that infamous 7-2 defeat to Aston Villa.

So, when Jamie Carragher was on commentary duty for Aston Villa’s 1-0 win over Arsenal on Saturday, he was lauding the team’s high line, especially in stoppage-time and how ‘brave’ they were.

That praise caught the attention of a Liverpool fan who slammed Jamie Carragher for praising Villa for their high line, yet he ‘sent four years ripping us’.

Well, the Sky Sports pundit responded and made it clear he has ‘no problem’ with that tactic, as he explained what Villa are doing differently to Liverpool.

Aston Villa and Liverpool’s high-line

Liverpool fan stated: “Carra is unreal. He’s spent 4 years ripping into us for playing a high defensive line. Villa do it and he’s sat in the commentary box polishing his purple-headed womb broom.”

“I’m real I can assure you,” responded Carragher.

No problem with a high line as I’ve always said, what Villa do that at times we haven’t, is side on body positions & sprint back when the ball goes over their head. The womb broom is coming on great

Aston Villa two points off leaders Liverpool

After the season Liverpool had last season, then losing a number of key figures from the dressing room, such as Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Fabinho and Roberto Firmino, not many knew what to expect from the team.

But the goals have been rolling in and so have the comebacks!

For probably the umpteenth time this season, Liverpool have won from a losing position, as they downed Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

But that wasn’t the most impressive result of the weekend because Unai Emery’s Aston Villa, after beating Manchester City in midweek, secured a win over Arsenal to move within two points of the Reds.

Things could get very, very interesting at the top of the table during these coming months!
