Steven Gerrard shared an update on Instagram amid Klopp replacement rumours.

Steven Gerrard has shared a public update for the first time since Liverpool FC boss Jurgen Klopp confirmed he is leaving the club this morning.

The 56-year-old will depart the club this summer after nine years.

Xabi Alonso is one former club star who has been linked with the position given his excellent 15 months at Bayer Leverkusen. The club are currently four points clear in the Bundesliga title race and the manager boasts a 50% win record across his whole spell.

He is not the first ex-Liverpool hero to be tipped as a potential Klopp successor. Back in 2021, Klopp himself hailed then-Aston Villa head coach Steven Gerrard for the work he had done at Rangers and made a bold prediction about his future in management.

Asked whether Gerrard could one day manage Liverpool, the current Reds boss said: “Oh yes I do, absolutely. The only thing is when is the right moment for that.

“I think that Stevie is doing really well and he’s very young from a manager’s point of view so it’s just when is the right moment for him to take the job. Yes, I believe it will definitely happen and be good for everyone.”

On Friday afternoon Gerrard took to Instagram to share a simple update in the wake of Klopp’s news. He reposted Liverpool FC’s announcement of Klopp’s departure, simply adding a red heart emoji.

Bookmakers currently have Alonso as favourite to replace Klopp after he leaves the club in May.
