FC Barcelona are reportedly considering Roberto De Zerbi as an early option to replace Xavi Hernandez, with Liverpool also interested in the Italian.

The Brighton & Hove Albion manager has established himself as one of the best young coaches in the Premier League, with the 44-year-old leading the Seagulls to European football last season.

With the south coast side again impressing in the Premier League and in their maiden continental adventure, De Zerbi has reportedly emerged as an option for Liverpool to replace Jurgen Klopp.

Yet according to Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona are now also taking an interest in De Zerbi, with Xavi announcing this weekend that he will leave the Catalan giants at the end of the season.

Romano said: “De Zerbi is likely to be an option in common for both clubs, but Barcelona are still taking their time before deciding their shortlist. It’s very easy to mention names like De Zerbi or Xabi Alonso for these clubs.

“But although they are strong candidates around Europe, I can guarantee that with Barcelona it will take time, because it has to be decided by Joan Laporta but also other people in the Barca board, including Deco.”

Barcelona could beat Liverpool to Roberto De Zerbi appointment.

Liverpool

With Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher recently tipping De Zerbi as an ideal replacement for Klopp, a lot is going to be made out of the Brighton man coming to Anfield in the summer.

Yet with the Reds having other options, there’s ever chance that Barcelona could make a swoop to appoint the Italian manager as their successor to Xavi.

As we know, the Brighton coach has done an outstanding job in the last 18 months with the Seagulls, and yet a role at a club as big as Barcelona could be tempting for De Zerbi.

And for Liverpool, losing out on the Premier League manager wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world, especially with fans all tipping Xabi Alonso as Klopp’s true successor at Anfield.
