Gary Neville explains what 24-year-old Liverpool player did wrong vs Arsenal tonight

This was not Liverpool’s night. Ahead of the game, we were dealt with more injury blows

Dominik Szoboszlai couldn’t travel with the squad due to a knock that he picked up. And then there was the weather as well. It was a dark gloomy sky – a bad portent of what was to come.

Yet in the first-half, Liverpool rode their luck, and did their best. Somehow they managed to force Arsenal into an error, and then in the second-half the Reds had the momentum.

But that shifted quickly after Alisson and Virgil van Dijk’s mishap which ultimately cost Jurgen Klopp’s side a very vital point in the title race. After that everything seemed to just go downhill for Liverpool.

Gary Neville on Ibrahima Konate

Ibrahima Konate’s second-yellow card after a foul on Kai Havertz was the final nail in the coffin for Liverpool. Once the Reds were reduced to ten men, it never looked like they would get back into the game.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Gary Neville thought that Konate could have escaped a second-yellow, and explained what the 24-year-old Liverpool defender did wrong.

“I think if Ibrahima Konate stood still, he would have been okay, but he put his arms up and that is the problem.”

We agree with him. It was a bit of an unnecessary one for Konate to give away. He is someone who can be perilous in situations like that and escaped a second-yellow against Everton in the derby earlier on in the season. In that game Klopp took him off the pitch before he received a second yellow. In this one unfortunately the Liverpool boss didn’t have that luxury.
