Liverpool could seal final transfer under Jurgen Klopp as €20m wonderkid targeted

Liverpool are preparing for life without Jurgen Klopp from next season – but could still reportedly seal one more signing before he departs.

Klopp made the shock announcement last month that he would be leaving his role at the end of the current season.

With the Reds still fighting in four different competitions, the German will hope to end his hugely successful eight-and-a-half year spell at Anfield in dream fashion.

Attention internally has already turned to sourcing Klopp’s replacement, with Bayer Leverkusen boss and former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso among the favourites to succeed him at Anfield.

As far as transfers go, Klopp will leave behind a team that needs relatively few improvements given their strong business in recruiting first team players over his time at Anfield.

One issue, though, could be squad depth, with injuries leaving the German with a threadbare bench for the Reds’ 3-1 defeat at Arsenal on Sunday.

And according to Italian outlet Calciomercato, the Reds have already moved to solve their lack of defensive depth.

It is claimed that Liverpool have enquired about the signing of 19-year-old Lecce wonderkid Patrick Dorgu.

Dorgu, a Danish youth international, joined Lecce from Nordsjaelland last summer, having played for their U19 side in the season prior.

He recently scored the winning goal in Lecce’s 3-2 win over Fiorentina in Serie A, which moved his side up to 13th place in the Italian top division.

It is claimed that Lecce will demand over €20 million for the youngster, who can also play further forward on the left flank.

He has made 19 appearances – seven of those starts – in Serie A this season, and the club’s president is already said to be ‘rubbing his hands’ thinking about a potential sale.

Calciomercato add that Liverpool have already enquired about a move, surrounding the costs for a negotiation. Atletico Madrid are also said to be keen.

And while any move would be officially agreed and completed in the summer, the signing of Dorgu could still be negotiated in the months prior to the window opening – meaning the prospect of the signing being a ‘goodbye present’ from Klopp may not be totally off the table.
