Liverpool’s academy has thrived this season under Jurgen Klopp’s guidance. More and more young players keep coming through the ranks to try and prove themselves. And Klopp has given them an environment in which they can flourish and produce their best football.

Among the standout players who have emerged from the club’s academy this season, there are two. One of them is Jarell Quansah, who has been a stable figure in Liverpool’s first team squad since pre-season. The other is Conor Bradley, who has really started to prove himself on the big stage recently.

Both will have bright futures at Anfield for many years to come, and both are still extremely young. However, despite their age, both are already producing some quality performances and numbers in the Premier League. Especially, Jarell Quansah, who ranks top in several key metrics in the Premier League among U25 centre-backs.

Jarell Quansah is among the best centre-backs in the league

Taking a look at Wyscout statistics, if we distil the numbers down to U25 centre-backs in the Premier League, Quansah comes out on top in several key metrics for defensive players.

One of those is aerial duel success rare, with Quansah winning 75.76% which is the highest among U25 centre-backs, who have played at least 350 minutes this season. He also ranks in first place for possession adjusted interceptions (9.17 per 90) among centre-backs who are under the age of 25 in the league.

Meanwhile, he also averages the most passes per 90 (84.57) among his positional peers. Which is again a key metric that Quansah has excelled in all season for Liverpool so far.

Of course, the numbers and the sample size is small, with Quansah having only played just under 400 minutes in the league so far. But it’s sufficient enough to determine that Liverpool could potentially have a special player on their hands. One who Ibrahima Konate recently described as ‘magic.’
