Virgil van Dijk responds to Liverpool injury blow with perfect message

Liverpool winger Diogo Jota was carried off the pitch on a stretcher during the 4-1 victory at Brentford on Saturday afternoon.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has led the messages of support to Diogo Jota after Jurgen Klopp confirmed the winger’s injury setback.

Jota needed to be carried off the pitch on a stretcher on Saturday lunchtime after being landed on awkwardly by Brentford’s Christian Norgaard. Concerns only deepened just after the half-time break when the Bees’ tunnel cam spotted the 27-year-old hobbling alongside a Liverpool backroom staff member.

In his press conference before the clash with Luton Town, Klopp gave a gloomy assessment on the current injury situation for Jota. “Not great, I would like to say no issues but we have some,” the German head coach explained.

“Not available: Ali, muscle injury, we don’t know how long it will take but definitely not the foreseeable time coming back. Then we have Diogo with a knee issue is ruled out. Curtis [Jones], with a bone/ligament issue, is ruled out.”

Klopp then added: “With Diogo, it will obviously rather take months (not weeks). And Curtis [Jones]… with injuries you have important days, like day five or day 10, when you judge the situation again because not everyone reacts in the same way.”

Confirming what Klopp had said, Jota took to Instagram to share the bad news. “Another setback,” he wrote.

“I will fight to be back as soon as possible #ynwa.” In response, several of the current Liverpool team sent their well wishes including; Van Dijk, Luis Diaz, Caoimhin Kelleher, Ryan Gravenberch, Adrian and Jarell Quansah who sent love heart emojis.

Former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson also posted a love heart emoji in a show of solidarity towards his ex-teammate.
