Shay Given posted a four-word reaction on social media following the Carabao Cup final display of Caoimhin Kelleher as Liverpool edged out Chelsea at Wembley.

It was Virgil van Dijk who produced a captain’s performance in the first final of the season, with the Dutchman scoring the winning goal towards the end of extra-time.

Liverpool’s performance was so impressive considering how stretched their squad has been. Jurgen Klopp was more than happy however, to throw on a number of young players as the minutes ticked by.

Shay Given lauds Caoimhin Kelleher after Liverpool win

The Reds rode their luck at times. But when they needed someone to bail them out, it was often Caoimhin Kelleher who stepped up.

Kelleher made a remarkable save to deny Cole Palmer in the first-half, leading to praise from Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher. And every time Chelsea knocked on the door, the Republic of Ireland international was able to keep them at bay.

Kelleher was certainly a contender for the player of the match award for some of his heroics. And writing on X, Shay Given lauded his countryman following his performance in the 1-0 victory.

Many more finals to come for Reds goalkeeper

Kelleher definitely has the quality to play a lot more for the Reds. Klopp would surely love nothing more than to give him more minutes. But ultimately, he is behind Alisson Becker in the pecking order. And the Brazilian is one of the best goalkeepers on the planet right now.

The Liverpool coaches know what a special talent they have in Kelleher. And when the time comes, he will surely be more than capable of stepping up into the number one spot at some stage.

Certainly, many Liverpool fans will fondly remember another of Kelleher’s cup final performances.

And you would imagine that it will not be the last time the Irishman steps up on the biggest stages for the Reds.
