BBC pundit wowed by what £32k-a-week Liverpool player did in first half v Nottingham Forest

Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher delivered a solid display in the first half of the Premier League game away at Nottingham Forest.

For instance, in the 11th minute, the Reds stopper was quickly off his line to gather the ball as Morgan Gibbs-White sought to send a free kick into Ryan Yates’ path.

Then, in the 22nd minute, Kelleher pulled off a superb stop to deny Anthony Elanga after he had gone clean through on goal.

Former Liverpool ace Divock Origi slid the ball in behind the Reds defence for Elanga to race onto, but Kelleher stuck a boot out to deny him.

BBC Sport pundit Paul Robinson loved what he saw from the £32,000-a-week talent, hailing him on Radio 5 Live.

He said, as per the BBC Sport website: “Fantastic save from Caoimhin Kelleher!

One-on-one and I think Anthony Elanga did look a touch offside, but that shows how fast Forest can break.

“Kelleher does fantastically well, he stood up and spread himself – in all honesty Elanga should do a lot better.”

Meanwhile, on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday, Michael Dawson also lauded the Liverpool man.

“He’ll be devastated he hasn’t scored! What a save, what a chance,” he said, as per the Sky Sports website.

Kelleher is without a doubt the best second-choice keeper in the Premier League at present, aside maybe Arsenal stopper Aaron Ramsdale.

It remains to be seen whether he stays put at Anfield next season though, as a player of his calibre shouldn’t be a second-choice stopper for much longer.

As for the match, Liverpool are doing a decent job against tricky opposition so far. They’ve had the majority of the possession and some good openings.

However, they’ve not managed to get a shot on target yet, while at the other end, Forest fashioned arguably the best chance of the game – the one Elanga missed against Kelleher.

Both sets of Reds went in at the break with the score level at 0-0.
