Liverpool won’t have it all their way against Sparta Prague tonight. The host for this Europa League round of 16 first leg match, will be gunning for an upset. All is set-up for this match to be the most important one in Sparta Prague’s season.
Getting a result at home in front of the club’s own supporters against one of the best teams in the world could be huge for Sparta Prague. They should not be underestimated. Prague has already knocked out a strong opponent in Galatasaray. They also finished above Real Betis in the group-stages and even beat the La Liga side.
Currently, they’re leading the Czech top-flight, and have scored the joint most goals in the league, while also conceding the fewest. Jurgen Klopp will know this is going to be a tough test. However, if Liverpool can secure a victory tonight they will be able to do what no team has done against Sparta Prague this season.
Liverpool could do something no European team has done
So far this season, Sparta Prague hasn’t lost a single game that they have played at home in the full 90 minutes. They’ve won 16 of their 19 games in all competitions, only losing out in a penalty-shoot-out during the Champions League qualifiers earlier this season.
In the Europa League, they’ve so far won three of their last four games, and drew the other one.
So they’re quite a formidable opponent at home. Their home support is known to be very passionate, and they will be at their very tonight as well to spur their team on.
If Liverpool do get a result, then they can end this Sparta Prague run, and become the first team in Europe this season to be the Czech side in their own stadium.
