Liverpool dealt huge injury blow ahead of Man City clash as Ibrahima Konate forced off

Liverpool’s injury problems have deepened ahead of their clash with Manchester City after Ibrahima Konate was forced off against Sparta Prague.

Konate pulled up minutes into the second half against Sparta Prague in the first leg of their Europa League encounter.

And with City coming up on Sunday in the Premier League, Jurgen Klopp has been given another headache ahead of the table-topping tie.

Liverpool are already missing a host of players including Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Curtis Jones.

Joe Gomez also went off at half-time, though there are no suggestions that was as a result of an injury.

Liverpool take on City in the Premier League on Sunday, which could have major implications over the title race.

The Reds are currently on top of the table but just a point separates them from City, who themselves are only a point ahead of Arsenal.

While it is not yet known what injury Konate has, the Frenchman pulled up as he raced back towards goal as Sparta Prague attacked early in the second half.

After Liverpool saw Conor Bradley score an own goal just seconds after the break, the Europa League minnows could have had another.

While Sparta Prague failed to score, there were still concerns on the Reds bench with Konate on the deck.

Klopp might take some solace from the fact that Virgil van Dijk was fit and ready to come on and replace him.

But with such a tight turnaround, Konate might have to miss City’s visit to Anfield on Sunday.

It means that Jarrell Quansah, who has performed well this season since stepping up to the first team, might partner Van Dijk in defence.

And Klopp might also be able to call upon the services of Mohamed Salah, who was fit enough for a spot on the bench against Sparta Prague on Thursday night.
