‘Only one winner here’… Paul Merson has just predicted Manchester United vs Liverpool FA Cup clash

Paul Merson has now predicted the upcoming FA Cup clash between Manchester United and Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The 55-year-old made the comments when writing for Sportskeeda.

So, what does Paul Merson expect to happen in Manchester United vs Liverpool? Let’s take a look…

Paul Merson shares prediction for Manchester United vs Liverpool

Well, the man from Harlesden is expecting Erik ten Hag to adopt a defensive style of play at Old Trafford this Sunday, and has told Manchester United fans to be patient ahead of what is unlikely to be a “nice watch” for them.

Merson said: “Liverpool are 5-1 up in the UEFA Europa League Round of 16 clash against Sparta Prague, so I think they will rest players there and go full strength for this one. If Jurgen Klopp fields a full-strength XI, there’s absolutely only one winner here.

“If you’re a Manchester United fan this weekend, you have to be patient. There’s every chance Erik ten Hag puts ten men behind the ball at home against Liverpool – which kind of shows how badly the Red Devils have fallen in recent years. It’s not going to be a nice watch for them.”

Merson, who has also praised Virgil van Dijk, ended his prediction by backing Liverpool to record a 3-1 win over Manchester United.

Last FA Cup meeting at Old Trafford

Manchester United and Liverpool actually met in the FA Cup at Old Trafford fairly recently – January 2021 to be exact.

It was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in charge of the Red Devils back then, and the Norwegian managed to record a 3-2 win over Jurgen Klopp in the Fourth Round thanks to goals from Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes.

A double from Mohamed Salah had Liverpool level with Manchester United on 2-2 before a 78th minute freekick by Fernandes stole the show.

In what is now Klopp’s last chance to win another FA Cup for Liverpool, the German will be hoping for a different outcome this weekend.
