Darwin Nunez gave Liverpool the lead against Sheffield United in bizarre fashion – and Ivo Grbic won’t want to see it back.
The Liverpool forward stood waiting for the Blades goalkeeper to take his goal kick, but jumped up as Grbic’s effort took off the ground.
Nunez was as stunned as everyone else in the ground when the ball ricocheted off him and ended up in Sheffield United’s goal, putting the Reds 1-0 up.
The Blades had very much been in the game before the 17th minute opener, having two decent chances at taking the lead before Grbic was left picking the ball out of his net.
Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder appeared to be understandably unimpressed on the touchline, too.
The Blades are rock bottom of the Premier League and 10 points off safety with just 15 points – and Grbic’s bad luck sums up their tough return to the top flight.
Liverpool, on the other hand, won’t care how their opener came and will need to secure a convincing win as they continue their title charge.
The Reds’ opener returns them to the top of the league after Arsenal overtook them on Wednesday following the Gunners’ 2-0 win over Luton.
