Alexis Mac Allister shares what former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has just messaged him

Liverpool star Alexis Mac Allister looks set for another excellent season under new manager Arne Slot having just won the Copa America.

Mac Allister was crucial for Argentina at the tournament, just as he was for Jurgen Klopp in his last season as Liverpool boss.

Interestingly, the 25-year-old played a variety of positions for his country over the summer, deployed as both a central-midfielder and a left-winger.

Three of Mac Allister’s five starts came in an offensive position, perhaps a role that Slot would consider at Liverpool next season.

But given that Slot is said to be keen on recruiting a new number six for the coming season, perhaps he could even try the Argentinian there, a role he also played for Klopp.

That being said, Mac Allister has now shared a classy message that Klopp sent him after winning the Copa America for the first time this summer.

Alexis Mac Allister says he’s grateful for everything Jurgen Klopp did at Liverpool

Mac Allister was speaking with Argentinian outlet Clank and said that he had a great relationship with Klopp, one he’ll surely hope to continue with his new manager.

Interestingly, Mac Allister also noted that his former manager defended him from day one at Anfield, an understated part of Klopp’s management.

He shared: “Jurgen Klopp messaged me after the Copa America final, he congratulated me. I admire him; I have a great relationship with him. We talked a lot throughout the year.

“I’m grateful because he gave me the opportunity to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world. He opened the doors for me and defended and helped me from the very first minute.”

A classy act from a classy manager, and further reminder of the tough act Slot has to follow.

Should Liverpool seek an upgrade on Wataru Endo?

Of course, when discussing whether Mac Allister will play minutes as a six next season, it’s important to remember Wataru Endo’s role.

Endo seemed to be a Klopp signing, a cost-effective alternative to Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia who both chose to join Chelsea.

But after news of Liverpool rejecting a bid from Marseille for Endo, was that the right call?

Although the likes of Benfica’s Joao Neves now looks set for Paris Saint-Germain, there are surely other sixes on the market who would be better suited to Slot’s demands.

That being said, one midfielder has just rejected a move to Liverpool this summer.
