Sven-Goran Eriksson Shares Emotional Farewell in New Documentary as He Battles Terminal Illness
Sven-Goran Eriksson, the 76-year-old former England manager, has delivered an emotional farewell message to the world as he nears the final stages of his battle with terminal pancreatic cancer. Eriksson, who announced in January that he had “at best a year” to live, has since achieved a lifelong dream by managing a Liverpool team at Anfield and receiving heartfelt tributes at the stadiums of his former clubs like Gothenburg, Lazio, Sampdoria, and Benfica.
A new feature-length documentary titled *Sven* on Prime Video will showcase Eriksson’s remarkable career and his poignant journey following his diagnosis. The documentary includes special appearances from notable figures such as David Beckham and Wayne Rooney, and features Eriksson’s candid reflections on his terminal illness.
In a heart-wrenching farewell message at the end of the documentary, Eriksson says, “I had a good life. I hope you will remember me as a positive guy trying to do everything he could do. Don’t be sorry, smile. Thank you for everything, coaches, players, the crowds, it’s been fantastic. Take care of yourself and take care of your life. And live it. Bye.”
Reflecting on his illness, Eriksson told Channel 4 in an interview, “You appreciate waking up in the morning and feeling well, and normally you don’t do that. You take it for granted. Life is beautiful.”
As part of the documentary, players from England’s ‘Golden Generation,’ including Paul Scholes, Steven Gerrard, and Owen Hargreaves, have sent heartfelt video messages to Eriksson, expressing their gratitude and support.
In a touching gesture, Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp also sent a heartwarming message to Eriksson. Klopp, who admired Eriksson’s contributions to football, expressed his deep respect and affection for the former manager, emphasizing that one of Eriksson’s biggest wishes had come to pass.
The documentary Sven will be available for streaming on Prime Video starting August 23.
