Jurgen Klopp theory emerges as AC Milan legend gives Ryan Gravenberch Liverpool verdict

Clarence Seedorf was asked about Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch before the Champions League match with AC Milan in his role as a pundit for Amazon Prime.

AC Milan legend Clarence Seedorf has explained why he’s confident that Arne Slot can get the best out of Ryan Gravenberch at Liverpool. The Reds midfielder has been enjoying his most consistent run of form since arriving at Anfield from Bayern Munich in 2023.

Liverpool agreed a £40million deal to snap-up Gravenberch last year and it turned out to be Jurgen Klopp’s final signing as Reds manager. The Netherlands international made 38 appearances in his debut season on Merseyside but was handed just 21 starts across all competitions.

Since Slot arrived as head coach, Gravenberch has started every single Liverpool fixture so far this season and was included in the starting line-up to face Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday night. As a result, it was the first time that the 22-year-old has started five matches in a row since becoming a Liverpool player.

Seedorf was at the San Siro to preview Liverpool’s opener against Milan in the Champions League. The former Netherlands international went on to praise the progress Gravenberch has made in the 12 months since signing, and explained why Liverpool can bring the best out of the midfielder.

“He [Gravenberch] was signed before this coach [Slot] came in. So I think that Jurgen Klopp and the club definitely believe in Gravenberch,” Seedorf told Amazon Prime.

“He needed that year of transition, as well, he came from a difficult season at Bayern Munich. I think that Liverpool was preparing him for what we are seeing now.

“He had a lot of moments in a match last year. And it’s not easy for anybody – even experienced players – to change a team, club, country, everything, and immediately fit in.

“So what we are seeing is hopefully the start of this great talent. [I hope] he will be shining for many years.”
