Jurgen Klopp is being touted for a return to management amid Manchester United’s plan to replace Erik ten Hag, although the former Liverpool boss has already made his stance clear.
Jurgen Klopp is being once again being linked with a return to management as part of a plan that could see Manchester United replace Erik ten Hag.
The Dutchman’s future at Old Trafford looks to be in serious danger after another dismal defeat, this time at the hands of Tottenham. Although Ten Hag look set to take charge for United’s games against Porto and Aston Villa this week, he could well find himself out of a job once the next international break rolls around.
Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi is being touted as a possible replacement, despite signing a new contract at the San Siro in July after being linked with Liverpool. Should Inzaghi make the move to Old Trafford though, it’s claimed Klopp could in turn make his return to management.
According to Inter Live, the Italian champions have already identified the former Liverpool boss as their top target to replace Inzaghi. It’s suggested that Diego Simeone is also on their wishlist should Klopp decide against a move to the San Siro, and Inter might want to start getting on the phone to the Atletico Madrid boss already
Not only that, but he has already addressed the possibility of a move to Serie A this year, having been asked whether it would appeal to him before Liverpool’s Europa League quarter-final against Atalanta back in April.
“The only Italian thing I know is Italian food,” Klopp answered. “At this moment I don’t plan a further career as a manager. Ask me in a year’s time, but now I don’t plan anything.”
Since exiting Liverpool, Klopp has kept himself busy, having been seen various events in the past few months including a Taylor Swift concert in Liverpool, the Champions League final at Wembley, and the Paralympics during the summer.
He has, naturally, been linked with some jobs during that time, although is yet to show any desire to return to management early. According to The Athletic earlier this month, Klopp held multiple meetings with the USMNT about the vacant USA job, which was eventually filled by former Tottenham and Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino.
Inter would naturally be another enticing job, although Klopp seems to be sticking to his guns, meaning we shouldn’t expect to see him make a return to management until at least next year.
